An officer-involved shooting on Astrozon Boulevard has culminated in the identification of a suspect, following a collision between a vehicle and a motorcycle earlier this month. The incident occurred on December 13th, at approximately 2:20 in the morning, according to the City of El Paso provided by the Special Traffic Investigations of El Paso.
Investigations revealed that a 2022 Ram truck, speeding north on the 4700 block of N. Mesa, took a turn onto Castellano right into the path of a 2007 Suzuki motorcycle heading south at the 4800 block of N. Mesa. The motorcyclist was catapulted from their seat as a result of the crash. After impacting the motorcycle, the Ram truck collided with the storefront of the business Angry Owl, extensively damaging the property. It emerged from the scene too that the Suzuki had been reported stolen before the incident, with a red-light violation being a contributing factor to the crash.
The El Paso Police have since apprehended and booked Shepherd into the El Paso County Detention Facility on multiple charges related to the incident. The tragic event marks the 66th traffic fatality in 2024, a slight decrease from the 75 fatalities recorded the previous year.
