A blaze broke out in the early hours of November 9, in the Golfcrest / Bellfort / Reveille area resulting in significant damage to a single-family house. The Houston Fire Department reported to a call at 2:06 a.m. on the 7600 block of Cayton St., where firefighters encountered "heavy smoke coming from a 1-story house," according to an official statement on the City of Houston's website.
Upon arrival, the crews made entry to quickly extinguish the fire, which was primarily located in the garage. In a successful attempt to prevent further spread, the roof was ventilated. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident which necessitated a response from 36 personnel across multiple stations. Firefighters were able to save an estimated $100,000 in property, while the damages were evaluated at roughly $60,000.
Further investigation by HFD Arson investigators concluded that the incident was accidental, attributing the ignition point to an electrical source. As part of the standard operating procedure, the utilities were secured, and both a primary and secondary search were conducted to ensure that no residents or pets were trapped or harmed in the fire.
The response included a robust presence from Houston's fire personnel, with teams from Stations 23, 20, 26, 29, 36, 61, 24, and Rescue 42 all in attendance to aggressively control and ultimately conclude the incident.
