An ordinary shoplifting report quickly escalated into a high-stakes pursuit when two minors, suspected of stealing from an Elk Grove store, fled the scene.
According to the Elk Grove Police Department, the incident occurred on Monday after loss prevention staff notified police of the theft. The situation intensified when one of the suspects, while fleeing on foot, was seen throwing a firearm into the bushes.
The chase ended with the arrest of two juveniles, ages 16 and 17. Officers recovered a loaded firearm at the scene, which was later found to be stolen. The suspects were taken to Juvenile Hall. "What started as a call about shoplifting this past Monday turned into something much more serious," the Elk Grove Police Department reported said in their Facebook post.
