
City Manager Kirk Bednar, who has worked for the city for over 34 years and led it since 2013, will retire in February 2025. The City Commission started a national search to find his replacement. Police Chief Richard Hickey also plans to retire in 2025, with Assistant Chief Jim Colvin set to become the new Chief of Police. Captain Nick Surre will take over as Assistant Chief, according to the City of Brentwood.
In 2024, Brentwood made important improvements to its infrastructure. The city opened its first mountain bike trail at Smith Park, a seven-mile project developed with Bike Walk Brentwood. City Hall also started a $5.4 million renovation to improve efficiency. A new roundabout at Murray Lane and Holly Tree Gap, open since August 2, helps reduce traffic. Brentwood’s commitment to green spaces was demonstrated by the re-certification of its two arboreta by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council, as reported by the City of Brentwood.
Brentwood started holding Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies to honor those who served. The city also earned praise for its services, with Brentwood Fire & Rescue getting its third straight international accreditation and Brentwood Water receiving a perfect review. In addition, Lee Boulie was named the new Library Director, bringing her experience from Nashville to help grow the city's library and community programs, as stated by the City of Brentwood.
