The 52nd Honolulu Marathon saw over 35,000 participants running from downtown Honolulu to Kapiolani Park. The winner of the men's race was Yamane Haileselassie from Eritrea, who finished with a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 59 seconds, just ahead of Kenya's Reuben Kerio, according to KITV.
The event featured a range of talent, including Kenya’s Cynthia Limo, who was the top female finisher with a time of 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 14 seconds. Japan’s Kota Hokinoue and Wakako Tsuchida won their wheelchair divisions. Despite the tough race and hot weather in Honolulu, they kept their focus. "I'm happy and grateful for this opportunity," Haileselassie said, as he told Hawaii News Now and KITV.
Jared Breux and Kathryn Watt, both from Kailua, were the fastest male and female finishers from Hawaii. Ben Jones completed his 50th and final marathon in Hawaii after 14 years of running in all 50 states. The event had a well-prepared medical team, led by Dr. Alexander Berk, to ensure runner safety with resources like labs and plunge pools. The race included 39 percent local participants and many visitors, as reported by KITV.
