Tragedy struck on the roads of Aurora early today when two vehicles were involved in a fatal collision at the intersection of I-225 and E. Illiff Ave. According to Aurora Police Department, one person was declared dead at the scene and another suffered life-threatening injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital.
The incident, which has led authorities to shut down all northbound lanes of I-225 at E. Iliff, with traffic being diverted at Mississippi, occurred under circumstances that are yet to be fully understood. However, preliminary investigations suggest that speed may have played a critical role. The police are working rapidly to unravel the exact cause of the crash.
The Aurora Police Department's post on their official website indicates that the first vehicle had two occupants, the second of which is now fighting for their life in the hospital. In contrast, the other vehicle involved had three occupants who, after being examined on-site by emergency services, did not require hospitalization.
