A tragic incident unfolded in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon when two vehicles were involved in a deadly collision that resulted in the death of one person, left another seriously injured, and necessitated a dramatic rescue operation. According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Fire Department received a report of the accident at approximately 4:09 p.m., near the intersection of Don Lorenzo Drive and Stocker Street.
Firefighters rapidly responded to the scene where they worked to extricate a man, who was estimated to be in his 50s, from the wreckage of his vehicle. The LAFD alert described the rescue operation in detail, noting that LAFD units, along with an LA County Fire Department engine and squad, were dispatched for the auto extrication. Both patients were reported to be in critical condition at the time of the incident and were transported to a local hospital.
The Los Angeles Police Department later confirmed that one of the passengers later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. However, details about which vehicle the deceased was riding in, or the specific cause of the collision were not immediately provided by officials. The surviving passenger from the second car involved was reported to be in stable condition and, as mentioned in the KTLA report, both drivers appeared to be uninjured.
An LAPD investigation into the crash is ongoing. They shared that one car was traveling southbound on Don Lorenzo Drive and was attempting a turn onto eastbound Stocker Street when it collided with the second car, moving westbound on Stocker Street, as per KTLA. As the investigation continues, the determination of whether factors, such as speed, played a role in the accident has yet to be disclosed.
