A tragic incident unfolded on North Main Street, Jacksonville, as a 43-year-old man was pronounced dead following a vehicle collision yesterday evening. The crash occurred around 6:58 p.m. when a pickup truck, driven by a 68-year-old man, traveling northbound struck the driver's side of a sedan that was stopped on the roadway, according to First Coast News.
The Florida Highway Patrol's report, as detailed by News4Jax, indicated that the sedan was either attempting a U-turn at Sara Drive’s intersection, or it had been involved in a prior hit-and-run incident before the crash occurred. The force of the collision sent the sedan onto the raised concrete median where it came to a stop facing south, while the pickup truck halted further up the inside lane.
The disastrous event led to the temporary closure of all northbound and southbound lanes on North Main Street between Eastport Road and Baisden Road, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The 68-year-old driver of the pickup sustained minor injuries, and it is currently unknown if both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
FHP believes, that a white Nissan Altima with Florida license plate number AR01DM could potentially be the other vehicle involved in the earlier hit-and-run.
