A deadly fire claimed the life of a woman in Franklinton, with the incident now under investigation by local authorities. According to Avoyelles Today, the fire occurred around 2 p.m. last Tuesday. The Franklinton Fire Department responded to the emergency call at a residence on the 1500 block of Madison Street, where they found a 90-year-old man reporting his attempt to save his adult daughter from the blaze, but tragically, she did not survive.
The victim, believed to be a 65-year-old woman who resided in the home, was discovered in a bedroom – the suspected point of origin for the fire. The State Fire Marshal's office, as detailed in reports from WDSU, is considering a space heater, plugged into a power strip and placed too closely to flammable objects, as a possible cause, for the fire.
Working smoke alarms were installed in the home, yet the victim's mobility issues may have hindered escape attempts. This information was revealed by State Fire Marshals and further reported by WGNO. The identification of the victim and the official cause of the fire await confirmation from the Coroner's Office.
