A woman was fatally shot on Christmas Eve at a Fayetteville transitional housing facility, authorities report. The incident unfolded yesterday night at Robins Meadow Transitional Housing, located in the 500 block of Candleberry Court. CBS17 detailed that the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the scene shortly before midnight after receiving reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, law enforcement found an adult female resident with a gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity is being withheld at this time, pending family notification. In the wake of the shooting, Cumberland County officials have taken measures to ensure the safety of the housing facility's residents, including halting all visitor access temporarily. "The County extends heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones, and stands in support of the Robins Meadow community as they grieve the loss of their neighbor," officials stated in a release obtained by The Fayetteville Observer.
The Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the incident. As of now, additional information remains scant as detectives work to uncover the details surrounding the tragic event. "We are devastated by this tragic event. Our primary focus is supporting the ongoing investigation and ensuring the safety of all individuals at Robins Meadow," Tye Vaught, Chief of Staff and Interim Community Development Director, shared in a statement to ABC11.
