Earlier today, a blaze swept through the Webb Road Flea Market in Salisbury, with emergency services working tirelessly to quell the flames. According to WCNC Charlotte, the fire was reported around 4 a.m. and involved heavy smoke billowing from one of the buildings. By 7:30 a.m., fire crews had extinguished the fire, confining damage to Building B of the sprawling market complex.
The Bostian Heights Fire Department spearheaded the firefighting efforts and is currently investigating the cause of the incident, as noted in a report by WBTV. The remainder of the flea market was saved from the inferno, maintaining the structural integrity outside of the directly affected wing. There have been no reported injuries relating to a blaze, which serves as a relief to both market staff and the wider Salisbury community.
Following the fire at the market located just off Interstate 85 at 905 Webb Rd., the flea market's communications director, Joey Popp, announced that the market would remain closed for the day. "Building B was the only part of the market that burned," Popp told WCNC Charlotte. He also reassured that no individuals were on the property when the fire erupted.
Officials have requested the public to avoid the area to ensure safety and allow unfettered access to emergency vehicles, a directive echoed on the Bostian Heights Fire Department's Facebook post earlier that morning. "Officials urge residents to avoid the area as they control the blaze," quoted from a statement on the Queen City News. Inquiries into the cause of fire and further details about the incident remain ongoing. Patrons of the market and curious onlookers are advised to visit the Webb Road Flea Market website for updates regarding reopening and other pertinent information.
