Early this morning, firefighters battled blazes at two duplex properties in the Acres Home neighborhood. The fires, which erupted shortly before 1:00 a.m. at locations on the 7400 block of Carver Rd. and the 2400 block of Dolly Wright, drew a strong response from emergency services. As firefighters from Houston Fire Department (HFD) Stations 4, 67, and 58 swiftly converged on the scene, the inferno threatening the structures was already making its presence known through flames leaping from the front of a duplex under construction.
Despite the challenging circumstances, 38 HFD personnel were met with no reports of injuries, a glimmer of hope amidst the smoke and ash. As they executed an offensive attack, the fire at the construction site was extinguished and a secondary blaze, a burned-out shell in a neighboring duplex, was discovered. A primary search of the affected buildings yielded no victims, indicating residents had perhaps escaped harm. According to the incident report, the cause of both incidents remains unclear.
While the firefighters' quick response ensured that further damage was averted, the financial toll wrought by the conflagrations is significant. Early estimates assess the cost of damages to be around $100,000.
