A former educator from the Austin area has been detained in Montgomery County on charges related to child pornography, with the arrest occurring after the Internet Crimes Against Children task force executed a search warrant, according to FOX 7 Austin.
Curtis John Locklear was apprehended at the scene and is facing charges for the possession of child pornography, during a proactive investigation led by a detective from Montgomery County Precinct 3, while the arrest has brought to light Locklear's previous vocation as a school principal and his role as an author who is required to frequently travel for his work. He is currently held in the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Jail with the bond set at $300,000.
The Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office has been taking action to ensure that those who may have concerns, or relevant information to add, can come forward and communicate with their office, specifically asking to speak to the detective leading this case, as emphasized in the information provided by FOX 7 Austin.
Further investigations have confirmed that Locklear's professional history included serving as the principal of Blockhouse Creek Elementary in Leander ISD from June 1995 until his retirement in July 2008, setting a stage for concern given his extensive contact with children throughout his tenure, coupled with the charges he currently faces, details that were corroborated by KHOU.
The community has been rocked by this revelation, challenging the trust placed in educators and leaders of youth, and casting a sobering light on the vigilance needed in the protection of children from potential harm even from those within institutions designed to nurture and instruct, a grim reminder of the necessity of stringent oversight. Office officials, while continuing their investigation, stand ready to support and receive information from the public in this unsettling case.
