As Fort Worth residents gear up for the holiday cheer, there's a small, practical consideration to keep in mind: waste management. The city has acknowledged the inevitable spike in trash during this festive time and is adjusting pickup schedules and allowances for waste accordingly. To manage the overflow of post-celebration refuse, the City of Fort Worth is letting residents know they can put out two extra bags of trash without incurring extra fees on their first collection day after Christmas and New Year's Day.
For those whose usual trash collection falls on the holidays themselves, services are pushed forward one day, which means if your trash is normally collected on a Wednesday it will be moved to Thursday, while Thursday collections will see a shift to Friday, Friday moves to Saturday, keeping in mind that this change also affects the bulk collections but on different days, resuming on the day after the holiday itself. This schedule change ensures that every household has the opportunity to dispose of their holiday waste promptly, especially with the addition of the two extra bags permitted during the first collection day following the holidays as detailed in the City's recent announcement.
However, the City also requests patience from its residents, as these extra bags will be picked up by a separate truck and at potentially different times compared to the regular trash pickup. Residents are advised to refrain from reporting missed collections immediately if they notice their extra bags or carts have not been collected simultaneously, as described in the instructions laid out by Fort Worth's official announcement. Should residents encounter any significant collection issues, they have been directed to contact the 311 Fort Worth Contact Center or use the MyFW app for assistance.
For those who find the two extra bags insufficient for their festive fallout, the city provides additional options, the Drop-Off Stations remain available for extra waste, though they will be closed on the actual holidays, and for those with a little more to discard, Pay Bags are for sale in sets of five at $15 plus tax, which will eventually show up on the water bill for convenience, ensuring that everyone has the means to keep their homes and the city clean during and after the celebrations. Additional information about the services including the location of the Drop-Off Stations or the Environmental Collection Center can be found directly on the City's waste management webpage.
