A family in Fort Worth is grappling with the loss of Oscar Alberto “Beto” Lopez, 26, who was fatally shot outside his home. The father of two young children was bringing home dinner when he became involved in a fatal argument supposedly over loud music. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the incident took place in the 1200 block of East Davis Avenue around 10:15 p.m. last Sunday.
Police discovered Lopez with gunshot wounds, dead in his driveway, after reportedly engaging in an altercation that escalated to physical violence with neighbor Caspian Swinney, also 26. Swinney, during the investigation of the event, suffered a medical emergency and was hospitalized before his arrest on a murder charge, now held on a $250,000 bond. Lopez's wife, Amanda Fernicola, lamented in a public Facebook post referenced by NBC DFW, that her husband had been shot by their neighbor because he was "frustrated with his loud music." According to Fernicola, Lopez had barely gotten out of his truck and hadn't had an opportunity to turn the music down.
Dunia Santos, who organized a GoFundMe for the Lopez family, described Beto as someone known for "his charisma, his contagious smiles and his cheerful personality." The GoFundMe campaigns are set to cover funeral expenses and support Lopez's widow and their two sons — a five-year-old and a three-month-old who are now left without their father, as per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
