It was an unconventional rescue operation early this morning when the Fort Worth Fire Department had to free a horse trapped in a cattle guard. The incident unfolded in the 10000 block of Alta Vista Road and required both the fire department and the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office to coordinate their efforts.
According to a social media post by the Fort Worth Fire Department, "At approximately 5:30am this morning, Fort Worth Fire Department Rescue 38 was dispatched to assist Tarrant County Sheriff's Office in removing a horse stuck in a cattle guard." A sedated horse was there to keep it safe by a TCSO Deputy, which enabled rescue operations to proceed without causing further distress to the animal.
The team went to work on the cattle guard, cutting and spreading the bars to release the horse's three ensnared legs. The process was careful and took roughly 45 minutes, but ultimately, it was a success. The next steps involved using a skid steer to relocate the horse across the road and help it stand on a patch of grass.
Once firmly on its feet, the Fort Worth Fire Department noted, "The horse stood up and they were able to get him loaded into the TCSO trailer." Despite the frightening ordeal, the horse sustained no major injuries, only evident were some minor cuts and scrapes. Ensuring his wellbeing, the horse was transported to a local vet for proper examination and treatment.
