
Last Friday, a grave incident unfolded in Novato. According to a social media post from the Novato Police Department, a teenage girl reached out to authorities to report a sexual assault. The authorities determined that the incident occurred in a parked vehicle that morning. It was uncovered that the suspect had pretended to be a 15-year-old on social media in the weeks leading up to the assault.

The Novato Police received tips about the suspect's location, leading to the discovery of the involved vehicle. Upon spotting the officers, the suspect tried to escape in his vehicle quickly but was spotted by a Marin County Sheriff's Deputy on Highway 101 soon after. A traffic stop was initiated in San Rafael, and the Novato Police were promptly on the scene.
Omar Shirkhan, a 20-year-old from Fremont, was identified as the suspect and taken into custody by the Novato Police Department without further complications. Shirkhan now faces multiple charges, including rape of a drugged victim, unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, and arranging to meet with a minor to commit a sex offense, among others. His bail at the Marin County Jail is set at $500,000.
