A juvenile was arrested on multiple firearm offenses in Fremont following the execution of a search warrant. This incident traces back to an earlier event on December 7, when five juveniles between the ages of fourteen and sixteen were apprehended after being caught with a stolen vehicle and evading a peace officer, the Fremont Police Department reported.

The initial arrest occurred when a stolen vehicle was identified, and upon Fremont officers' attempt to stop the car, it sped away. The chase was not pursued on the ground due to safety concerns. However, a CHP Air Unit continued to track the vehicle until it crashed on East Calaveras Boulevard in Milpitas. The five youths attempted to flee on foot but were quickly caught and subsequently released with a notice to appear in court, the police statement notes.

The investigation progressed as officers attained warrants to search four phones recovered from the stolen vehicle. One of these phones revealed photographs of a fifteen-year-old, one of the initially arrested juveniles, brandishing a firearm. This led to a further search warrant for the youth's residence on December 19, according to the Fremont Police Department's announcement.

With the aid of K-9 Officer Nala, trained in bomb and gunshot residue detection, the search at the juvenile's home was conducted. Nala's skills were instrumental in discovering an unserialized handgun and a thirty-round extended magazine with live ammunition, concealed near a washer and dryer, the same firearm as seen in the photographs on the phone. As a result of this find, the fifteen-year-old was arrested for a second time and faces several felony charges, including possession of an undetectable firearm and possession of a large-capacity magazine, the Fremont Police Department's post clarified.

The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, Juvenile Division, handles the case, where the fifteen-year-old has been charged with four felony counts. However, the charges for the remaining four juveniles involved in the December 7 incident are still under review.
