An iconic restaurant chain faces a significant contraction in the Bluegrass State as the Frisch's Big Boy brand grapples with closures forced by landlord disputes over unpaid rent. According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, seven locations in Northern Kentucky - specifically within Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties - have been slated to shut down, with letters issued by the property owner, NNN Reit, demanding that the restaurants vacate the premises.
The affected restaurants include notable addresses like 1731 Patrick Drive and 6808 Burlington Pike in Florence and the Dream Street venue accounting for, but not limited to, the three sites in Boone County where Frisch's has to pull up stakes. In Kenton County, patrons will see doors closed at 2112 Declaration Drive in Independence, while the 494 Orphanage Road facility in Fort Mitchell and the earlier closed Dixie Highway location in Erlanger bid farewell, too. The latter had ceased operations earlier in the spring, as reported by Local12.
Communities in Campbell County aren't spared either, with the 5010 Alexandria Pike restaurant in Cold Spring also on the closure list, reported by FOX19 to glean comments from the remaining open restaurants were met with silence from employees. The wave of closures isn't a sudden gust but rather part of an ongoing storm that swirled visibly last October; it was then revealed that nearly a quarter of Frisch's locations in southwest Ohio were embroiled in eviction proceedings, with more than $4.5 million in rent owed.
Meanwhile, Frisch has shared an update on social media, listing the Greater Cincinnati sites still in operation despite the sweeping changes. These included other Kentucky cities like Lexington, Winchester, and Shepherdsville, which, too, were facing orders to shut down by NNN REIT, according to Local12.
