
The City of Garland recently highlighted local heroes and standout neighborhoods at the 2024 Garland Neighborhood Awards, an event that took place on Nov. 7 during the Pre-Summit Mixer, as reported by the city's official announcements. Garland's Office of Neighborhood Vitality is in the business of honoring individuals and groups who dedicate themselves to enhancing and investing in their communities, fostering a spirit of togetherness and pride.
Among the honorees, Tommy Zapata from Rustic Oaks Estates was named "Who’s Who in Garland Neighborhoods," a recognition for embodying the quintessence of a "Good Neighbor," his leadership has played a pivotal role in creating a safe and engaging environment for his community, according to the City of Garland. In a bid to celebrate effective communication within neighborhoods, Camelot’s The Knightly News took home the Neighborhood Newsletter Award – a testament to their commitment to keeping residents around Arapaho and Jupiter Roads well-informed and connected.
Setting a record in nominations, the Garland Public Servant Award was given to not one but two recipients this year, in an unprecedented move, Fire Lieutenant Matt Brawner was commended for his exceptional service and contribution to bettering the lives of Garland’s citizens, alongside the Sanitation Department, who were singled out for their remarkable clean-up efforts following the devastating May storms, with a special nod to the sanitation staff's indefatigable work.
