Chaos briefly unfolded in Greenbrae last Thursday night when a man, later identified as 36-year-old Ryan Bayless, allegedly caused a disturbance by waving what were reported to be swords around inside a supportive housing facility. The incident in the 1200 block of South Eliseo Drive prompted a prompt response from the Central Marin Police Authority around 10:30 PM. According to the Central Marin Police, Bayless exited the facility before officers arrived, only to be found walking down the street, ignoring orders to stop.
Officers trailed Bayless for about 200 yards, attempting to de-escalate the situation carefully. These efforts ultimately culminated in the safe apprehension of Bayless, who was found to be donning a police-style body armor vest and carrying handcuffs at the time of his capture. Bayless was also in possession of multiple knives, including an unlawful switchblade and a dagger.
The incident ended without injuries but not without charges. Bayless was booked into Marin County Jail, facing several allegations: resisting arrest, possession of a switchblade knife, possession of a dagger, and violent felon in possession of body armor.
