The Greensboro Police Department will be conducting a procession today for fallen Officer Michael Horan, who was tragically lost in the line of duty this week. According to WXII 12, the ceremony will see Horan's body escorted from Raleigh back to Greensboro beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Drivers in the area should expect a significant presence of first responders along the route, specially along the I-85 corridor passing through the Triad area. They've been advised to use caution around the police processional, and not to park along the highway, or stop traffic which may create dangerous situations. Multiple federal, state, and local agencies will stage on overpasses along the procession path, as reported by FOX8.
Officer Horan served with distinction and his sudden passing has cast a somber mood over the Greensboro community. The escort will culminate at the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home in Greensboro, where Officer Horan's colleagues and the community can pay their respects. WRAL notes that the procession is planned to be a dignified tribute to the officer who was killed in service at a local Food Lion on Monday.
In relation to the case, the accused, Tarell Isaac McMillian, has been charged with first-degree murder. McMillian, aged 34, had his initial court appearance over Zoom yesterday, and he stands accused of the murder of Officer Horan, as per information from FOX8.
