A standoff in Greensburg yesterday resulted in the arrest of a man who had been wanted on multiple charges, including aggravated assault and strangulation. Tyler Schultheis, 34, refused to surrender to law enforcement, prompting a response from the Westmoreland County SWAT team.

According to WPXI, the City of Greensburg Police Department had previously issued an arrest warrant for Schultheis on Wednesday. The situation escalated when Schultheis made threats to harm law enforcement officers, which led to the SWAT activation. When officers arrived at his residence at 521 Perry Avenue around 6:20 a.m., he reportedly refused to answer his phone or to comply with the officers' requests to exit the house.

The standoff persisted for several hours, during which the police deployed tear gas, but there was no response from Schultheis. TribLIVE reported that police then utilized drones to search the residence, eventually locating Schultheis hiding in a second-floor closet.

Following the arrest, Schultheis faced additional charges for resisting arrest and obstructing police. He was denied bail and is currently detained at the Westmoreland County Prison. After being taken to court for a brief arraignment hearing, Schultheis had to be carried out post-refusing to move. A preliminary hearing on all charges is scheduled for Dec. 26 in Judge Chris Flanigan's Greensburg court, with no attorney listed for Schultheis in the court records.
