To spread a little holiday cheer, the Gresham Police Officers' Association has once again kicked off its annual "Fill the Cruiser" toy drive. Keeping with tradition, this marks the fifth year that officers aim to fill a police cruiser with toys, bringing smiles to children in the Gresham community during the festive season.
This charitable event, in collaboration with the Department of Human Services, sees Gresham's finest dedicate their time to gather donated toys. The toys will then be distributed to local kids who might otherwise go without them. Community involvement is not only encouraged but instrumental, and citizens are called upon to help make a tangible difference in these young lives. The drive is strategically placed outside the Gresham Fred Meyer, making it easier for shoppers to swing by and drop off a gift.
An announcement on the City of Gresham's official website laid out the specifics: the event is set today, running from noon to 8 p.m. at the Fred Meyer located at 2497 SE Burnside Rd. Toys for children of all age groups, from infants to teens, are welcomed and sorely needed.
Generous souls are asked to donate new, unwrapped toys, gift cards, or wrapping supplies. The inclusion of gift cards is particularly important, as they empower officers to carefully fill in gaps where donations might fall short and they make appealing gifts for teenagers—a group that's oftentimes overlooked in toy drives. Through the collective effort of Gresham's community, the hope is to ensure that the holiday spirit is felt by even the most vulnerable members of society.
