
Hawaiʻi is making strides in addressing climate change with its "Year of Climate Action." Leah Laramee, the state’s Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Coordinator, will be the featured speaker at the County of Maui Mayor’s Sustainability Speaker Series on Friday. She will discuss the coordinated statewide efforts and campaigns focused on climate justice in Hawaiʻi, providing an overview of the strategies and key themes for the year ahead.
The session “Year of Climate Action: Catalyzing Change in the Critical Decade” will be held at noon in the Mayor’s Conference Room at the Kalana O Maui County building, where Laramee will share practical steps for climate advocacy and community action. Later, at 4:30 p.m. at UH Maui College, Laramee will discuss "Subnational Efforts for our Environment Focusing on Exercising the Right to a Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment," focusing on the role of local initiatives in supporting global sustainability, as stated by the County of Maui.
Laramee, the Governor’s Office representative for the U.S. Climate Alliance, plays a key role in Hawai‘i’s climate efforts. The Mayor’s Sustainability Speaker Series features people like her who are working to make Maui Nui more sustainable.
