On Wednesday, Chico's historic Bidwell Mansion was severely damaged by fire. Fire officials were alerted to an illegal burn at the mansion around 3:15 a.m. The fire has caused significant damage, leaving the structure close to collapse, according to ABC10.

Mayor Kasey Reynolds captured the feeling of Chico residents: "Last night’s fire at the Bidwell Mansion is a devastating loss for Chico. Our firefighters, whether on duty or off, gave their all in the face of this fire," she said, as reported by ABC10.

The Bidwell Mansion, a state park and filming location for "The Thin Man" (1934), is being renovated and is expected to reopen in early 2025. The mansion was temporarily closed after a fire, but no injuries were reported, and the cause is still under investigation. Mayor Reynolds said, "As we recover from the loss of our iconic Bidwell Mansion, we'll continue to rely on the strength of our community to move forward," as stated by CBS News.
