Heads up, Hillsborough residents: your garbage collection schedule is going to look a little different during the upcoming holiday week. With town offices shuttering their doors from Dec. 24-26 in observance of Christmas, don't expect to see public waste services rolling down your street on those days. This brief hiatus from routine refuse removal is a reminder of municipal schedules bending to the rhythm of holiday observance.
Wondering when you can drag your trash bins to the curb? Homes typically serviced on Mondays or Tuesdays should set out their solid waste on Monday. As for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday pick-ups, they'll shift to Friday, Dec. 27, the Town of Hillsborough informs. Collections missed, as public works crews prioritize garbage over brush or leaf collection, they will attend to the following week, their arms stretching to the task with due diligence.
For residents looking to dispose of their Christmas trees, guidelines mandate a stripped tree free of tinsel and trimmings, planted by the street for yard waste collection. Alternatively, you can haul your festive fir to any Orange County waste and recycling center, save for the one on Bradshaw Quarry Road. Trees stand, a silent testament to the season's festivities, awaiting their final journey to recycling centers.
Moving onto recycling, Orange County will push their collection in Hillsborough back by a day to Thursday, Dec. 26, thus giving the holiday its due respect according to the Town of Hillsborough. The administrative office for the Orange County Solid Waste Management Department will be closed Dec. 24-26, with all waste and recycling centers not opening their gates on Dec. 24 and 25.
For anyone requiring additional details on residential garbage or brush collection, it's suggested to visit the town’s Garbage Collection page.
