A Holland Township woman was hospitalized on Monday after jumping from the window of a second-floor apartment to escape an assault from an acquaintance, officials report. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office responded to a call around 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of Millpond Drive East, where a passerby witnessed the woman's desperate act, as per statements given to MLive.
The suspect, identified as a 31-year-old man who is known to the victim and was reportedly armed with a handgun, had fled the scene by the time deputies arrived. According to FOX 17, the gun was not fired, and the victim, a 23-year-old woman, was immediately taken to a local hospital for her injuries. Deputies searched the apartment and nearby areas but were unable to locate the assailant.
Authorities had partially blocked off roads for several hours during their on-site investigation, instructing residents to remain inside their homes. The Sheriff’s Office Critical Response Unit cleared the apartment where the assault occurred, yet the suspect was not found, according to Holland Sentinel. Detectives remained on the scene to process evidence as part of their ongoing investigation.
