Residents and visitors in Honolulu can expect stronger trade winds. A Wind Advisory is in effect for parts of Maui County and the Big Island from 10 AM HST today until 6 PM HST Wednesday, with gusty conditions expected. A High Surf Advisory has been issued for north and west-facing shores across several islands due to large swells, as reported by the National Weather Service.
Stronger winds are expected to increase fire weather risks, especially on Wednesday and Thursday when wind speeds are forecast to peak. The National Weather Service is monitoring relative humidity levels, which could reach critical thresholds in some areas. "Relative humidity (RH) levels should near critical thresholds over some of the windier leeward areas by tomorrow afternoon," according to the National Weather Service. If Relative humidity drops significantly, Red Flag Warnings may be issued.
An AIRMET Tango has been issued for turbulence on the lee side of mountains below 8,000 feet, affecting air travel in the region. Meanwhile, a Small Craft Advisory is in effect through Thursday for all Hawaiian coastal waters due to strong easterly trade winds and elevated sea conditions, which are expected to strengthen further. "Surf along east-facing shores will rise through Thursday in response to the strong trade winds." After Thursday, trade winds are forecast to weaken, bringing calmer and more stable weather into next week, as stated by the National Weather Service.
