
A hiker was rescued from Diamond Head Crater Trail in Kahala, Honolulu, yesterday, after she fell ill and was unable to make her way down the trail. The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) detailed the rescue in a press release, indicating that they received a distress call at 1:19 p.m. and dispatched six units with 17 personnel in response.
The first HFD unit arrived at 1:29 p.m., quickly establishing command and beginning to ascend the trail on foot. Meanwhile, the second unit secured a nearby landing zone, preparing for the possibility of air operations. The distressed hiker, a woman in her 60s, was located by HFD personnel at 1:39 p.m. They immediately conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support while preparing for her extrication.
In a careful operation, the hiker was transported using Air 1 to the designated landing zone. According to the HFD's report, the transfer of care to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was concluded by 2:08 p.m.
