Honolulu police are conducting an investigation following an attempted murder that occurred in Waimanalo early Sunday. A 26-year-old man was critically injured during a fight that broke out around 1:50 a.m. near Kalanianaole Highway and Poalima Street, KITV reported.
The altercation reportedly began inside a Waimanalo karaoke bar involving two groups, one from Waimanalo and another from Kalihi. Following the indoor confrontation, the dispute escalated two hours later outside a nearby Jack-In-The Box, according to Hawaii News Now. Security footage from a online post shows the initial altercation inside the bar shortly after midnight.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services treated the victim for serious injuries to his upper torso before transporting him to hospital in a critical state. In a scene that has since grown all too familiar, bystanders at the scene were reportedly uncooperative with the attending authorities.
Witnesses in the Waimanalo community have expressed concern and dismay. "Apparently it was something really bad," a resident told Hawaii News Now. "This is our home. Go home and make your trouble." The identity of the persons involved in the violent exchange has not been released, and no arrests have been made as the police continue their search for the suspect.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with details that could lead to the apprehension of the responsible individual is encouraged to reach out to the Honolulu police.
