Fertitta's spokesperson declined to comment, and the Trump transition team has not provided confirmation on the potential nomination.
Fertitta, who has been involved with political figures in the past, contributed $420,000 to pro-Trump PACs in support of the 2024 election campaign. He also hosted fundraising events at his Post Oak Hotel in Houston, including one in May aimed at gathering donations from oil and gas executives and another in October to support campaign fundraising efforts, according to Chron.
Fertitta's career has extended beyond business and sports, with involvement in political discussions, including during the Trump administration amid the COVID-19 crisis. However, his resume does not include any previous public office experience, a detail that does not appear to prevent his consideration for this potential appointment. Furthermore, Fertitta's ties with academia as chairman of the University of Houston Board of Regents were spotlighted when UH President Renu Khator commented on the prestige an ambassadorship would bring, telling Houston Chronicle, "I think it would be a huge honor for the university. I would be very happy for him."
The continued attention on Fertitta is heightened by his recent appearance alongside President-elect Trump and Elon Musk in South Texas during a SpaceX flight test. His business ambitions are also evident from reports suggesting he may be exploring the possibility of acquiring the New Orleans Saints, according to Chron.
