A man who was critically injured in a collision on November 21 at 7600 North Wayside Drive has succumbed to his injuries, according to the Houston police. The 59-year-old, whose name has yet to be officially released pending identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was hit by a white tractor-trailer truck while crossing the street.
The Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y. Ramirez and Northeast Patrol Division Officer T. Richard reported that the incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. on the south side of the 7900 block of Ley Road at the intersection with North Wayside Drive. The victim was walking westbound when struck by the truck as it made a right turn onto North Wayside Drive. The City of Houston News provided details of the accident.
Following the crash, paramedics from the Houston Fire Department responded and transported the man to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead yesterday. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 49-year-old male, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities. He reportedly did not show signs of intoxication and, after being questioned, was released.
The crash investigation is ongoing. It may reveal broader issues such as pedestrian safety, commercial driver accountability, and the condition of Houston's roadways.
