To address impaired driving during the holiday season, Houston's Mayor and local law enforcement have launched a "no refusal" weekend initiative. At a recent press conference, HPD Chief Noe Diaz stated that drivers suspected of being intoxicated will not be allowed to refuse blood alcohol testing, according to KHOU11 on their YouTube channel.
To address the rise in DWI incidents, which led to over 3,000 alcohol-related crashes and 140 fatalities in Harris County last year, a collaborative effort involving at least seven agencies has been launched. The focus is on enforcement, prevention, and accountability, particularly in areas like the Emancipation and Washington corridors, which have seen higher levels of alcohol overconsumption, as reported by CW39.
Mayor Turner, urged local businesses to help prevent drunk driving by stopping intoxicated patrons from leaving. During the holiday season, law enforcement agencies like the Harris County Sheriff's Office, METRO Police, and Bellaire Police will increase patrols, focusing on areas like the Durham corridor, which has seen more DWI incidents. Houston Police Chief Noe Diaz reminded residents to "be safe. Be smart. Drive sober," as stated by CW39.
