The Houston Police Department is continuing its long-standing tradition of addressing holiday hunger with the 39th annual Comida/Food Drive. The event, a partnership between HPD, local grocery store Kroger, and the Pepsi Bottling Group, aims to distribute holiday meals to pre-registered families facing food insecurity. Police Chief J. Noe Diaz, Jr. and other officers will officially kick off this year's drive with a news conference at the Kroger store on Studemont Street.
The Comida/Food Drive, started in 1985 by an HPD officer who recognized a need among Houston’s less fortunate residents, has grown over the years into one of the city’s largest food drives. On Saturday, boxes of holiday meals will be distributed to 500 families, continuing a long-standing tradition of providing food and support to those in need during the holiday season.
The news conference announcing the start of the food drive took place earlier today at 10 a.m. at the Kroger located at 1440 Studemont Street, as outlined in the official media alert.
