On that morning, Vazquez was jogging along Westpark, between Fondren Road and Gessner Road, at approximately 6:45 a.m. when she was struck by a westbound vehicle. The area is known for its hazardous conditions for pedestrians, as noted by business owner Estaban Anchia, "Especially here on this corner -- Jeanetta and Westpark. It's very rough. It's a very dangerous corner," according to KHOU. Investigators are currently seeking surveillance footage from local businesses in an effort to capture any evidence of the incident.
In tribute to her love for running, friends shared that Vazquez had been selected as a local elite runner for the upcoming Houston Marathon in January. Erika Taugherm emphasized her significant impact on the community in a statement obtained by KHOU, saying, "She had been selected as a local elite runner for the Houston Marathon in January, a testament to her commitment and passion. She also touched countless lives through her work at Baylor over the past four years, where she dedicated herself to helping patients in the physical therapy unit."
Following Vazquez's death, her family is facing both emotional and financial challenges, including the cost of funeral arrangements. A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover these expenses. The Houston Police Department is continuing its investigation into the fatal hit-and-run and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
