Jim "Mattress Mack" McIngvale, the well-known Houston philanthropist and businessman, is recovering after open-heart surgery to repair a mitral valve issue. The 73-year-old shared an update on social media, saying, "Thank you God for allowing me to walk unassisted on my two feet one week after open heart surgery." He also acknowledged the support from Houston, saying, "Houston for your prayers, well wishes, messages, letters, and support of Gallery Furniture over the last week and as I continue to recover," according to Click2Houston.
McIngvale had a successful procedure at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center to fix his leaky mitral valve. He’s recovering well and hopes to be released soon, saying, "Hopefully, as I get better, I'll be released the next day or so." Mitral valve regurgitation is the most common heart valve problem, where the valve doesn’t close properly and causes blood to leak, which can lead to heart rhythm issues or, in severe cases, heart failure, as reported by Houston Chronicle.
Mattress Mack, recovering from cellulitis in the hospital, promoted his business by endorsing the "Mack Zcliner," a $3,000 recliner. He said, "This Mack Zcliner has really made time here at the hospital much easier." He also reminded customers, "Buy them today, Gallery Furniture delivers tonight." His recovery has kept him connected with the Houston community while still supporting his business, as stated by Houston Chronicle.
