From noon on Tuesday to 6 a.m. on January 1, use the code "HCSONYE" for a $15 discount, up to $5,000 total. The need for these measures is evident given the 33 drunk driving fatalities in Houston in 2024. Local law enforcement agencies, including the Harris County Sheriff's Office, Houston Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, are working together to reduce this number. While the Metropolitan Transit Authority will not offer free rides this New Year's, it continues to provide alternatives to drunk driving.
Houston is promoting safety this New Year’s Eve with two initiatives. zTrip is offering discounted rides, while Lone Star Injury Attorneys are giving away 50 Uber vouchers worth $10 each for rides on December 31 and January 1. Winners will receive vouchers on Monday, valid from 5 p.m. On Tuesday to 11:59 p.m. on January 1. To participate in the "New Year No Regrets" campaign, sign up by December 29. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez emphasized, "We want everyone to enjoy the holiday, but we also want to make sure everyone gets home safely," he told CW39. "Let's work together to keep our roads safe and prevent tragedies this New Year’s Eve," as described by The Houston Chronicle.
