
An Inverness man, 65, lost his life in a tragic series of events on a Citrus County highway, after being hit by a pickup truck and then run over by an RV. The incident occurred near the intersection of North Maynard Avenue on SR-44 around 6:21 p.m. yesterday. According to WFLA, the man was attempting to aid an RV driver in backing out of a park when he was struck.
The victim was standing in the roadway when a 30-year-old man from Dunnellon, driving a Dodge pickup, collided with him. The impact knocked the Inverness man to the ground, where, he was subsequently run over by the RV, driven by a 64-year-old Montgomery, Alabama resident. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man succumbed to his injuries at the crash site.
Further details provided by WTSP disclosed that the 65-year-old was providing assistance for the Allegro RV to reverse out of an RV park. In the midst of his efforts, the eastbound pickup driver reportedly did not perceive the man amidst the road and struck him.
Tampa Free Press notes that preliminary reports suggest, the pickup truck driver simply did not see the Inverness man in time to avoid the fatal collision. Authorities have not released further information on any charges or citations that might be issued in relation to the incident.
