
The Los Angeles Police Department is in the midst of an investigation following an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 26 in the Southeast Division, specifically at the corner of Hooper Avenue and 92nd Street. As reported by the LAPD, two uniformed Gang Enforcement Detail officers were on crime suppression duty when they observed a male suspect engaged in vandalism by spray painting a wall.
The situation quickly escalated when a second male approached the scene and fired a handgun at the officers, triggering an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the police, the shooting resulted in the suspects fleeing in a vehicle which led to a chase ending in the City of Compton where 20-year-old Kevin Diaz and two 15-year-old juveniles were apprehended, as detailed by the LAPD.
According to CBS News Los Angeles, the pursuit culminated with no injuries to officers or bystanders, but one of the juvenile suspects sustained gunshot wounds and is currently in critical condition at a local hospital. After the arrests, law enforcement officials discovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun, which lacked any identifiable markings, and a shotgun shell casing inside the suspects' vehicle.
