An Irving man now faces heightened charges after a multi-vehicle collision in University Park resulted in one fatality and left a young child critically injured. Alexis Ruiz, 32, is charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, according to FOX 4 News. These charges came as a result of a five-car crash on Nov. 22 at the intersection of Lovers Lane and Preston Road, where Ruiz, running a red light in his Chevy Silverado, initiated a chain-reaction accident.

As initially reported by CBS News Texas, the tragic incident claimed the life of Ana Gonzalez Perez, 44. Running from the scene, breaking away from a bystander trying to restrain him, Ruiz was subsequently arrested about a block away. Police have further stated that the 8-year-old boy involved remains hospitalized in stable condition, receiving care for the critical injuries suffered in the crash.
