Yesterday marked the somber twenty-fourth anniversary of the death of Irving Police Officer Aubrey Hawkins #830, who was killed in the line of duty responding to a robbery on December 24, 2000. In a tribute to his memory, the Irving Police Department took to social media to honor the fallen officer, sharing a poignant reminder of the day Hawkins was ambushed by seven escaped convicts amid an aggravated robbery at an Oshman's Sporting Goods store.
In the post commemorating the anniversary, Irving PD wrote, “Today, we remember our brother and honor his sacrifice. The Hawkins family will forever be in our hearts. We will never forget.” The department also reflected on Hawkins’ contributions and the lasting impact of his sacrifice on the community and his colleagues, characterized as the #BlueFamily.
Along with the message, a series of memorial links were shared including memories about Hawkins and a 20th Anniversary Memorial Video designed to keep the memory of Officer Hawkins alive and acknowledge the long-lasting ripple of his loss.
