As the city prepares to celebrate Christmas, Jacksonville residents can expect some significant closures across municipal facilities. As reported by the City of Jacksonville's official website, a range of government offices and amenities will shutter their doors on Christmas Eve, December 24, and Christmas Day, December 25.
Key closures include the City Hall at St. James, Duval County Courthouse, and various administrative offices like the Municipal Code Compliance Division. The Yates Building, along with all Tax Collector branch offices, will not be operating during the holiday observance. Tying a bow on community services, all community and senior centers, as well as gymnasiums managed by the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department, will also break for the holiday.
While offices are closed, Jacksonville doesn't leave its residents high and dry when it comes to waste management. Adjusted to accommodate the festivities, garbage, recycling, and yard waste collection for Wednesday will take place on the following Saturday, December 28. And for those seeking assistance or information during this period, take note— the 630-CITY Customer Service Center closes on Tuesday, December 24, not to reopen until 8 a.m. on Thursday, December 26, but services can still be requested online.
All Jacksonville Public Library locations join the long list of facilities pausing on December 24 and 25. However, outdoor enthusiasts have a silver lining, with hard courts and pickleball courts available for free play at tennis centers. Huguenot Memorial Park and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park offer nature's library of tranquility, open early for pass holders and day users—but keep in mind, anyone without a pre-paid camping reservation needs to exit the parks by their respective evening deadlines.
