Jefferson Parish is bracing for its Christmas break, and as a result, several services and offices will be taking a holiday hiatus. Announced recently, all Jefferson Parish Government offices, along with some additional facilities, will close their doors on December 24 and December 25 in observance of the festive period. This shutdown will affect the Head Start Centers, the Jefferson Protection and Animal Welfare Services, and the job centers on both the East and West Bank. Jefferson Parish disclosed these adjustments with a nod to the season's celebrations, ensuring community members can plan accordingly.
Curbside garbage collection will not be provided on Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day), impacting residents of Unincorporated Jefferson Parish and the Town of Jean Lafitte. Scheduled to have their garbage collected on Wednesdays, these residents will need to wait until Saturday, December 28, for the next pickup as there will be no make-up day. The four Parish drop-off sites, alongside the Parish landfill, will also take a break on the holiday, resuming normal operations on December 26. Known for its consistency despite the holiday season, Glass Half Full and Ramelli Group won't falter, offering free recycling services on December 21 and 28 to Jefferson Parish residents from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at specified locations, provided the weather does not act up.
Those looking for some recreational respite will need to account for closures at all Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation facilities, programs, and playgrounds, shutting down also on December 24 and 25. This also folds in the seasonal attraction, Christmas in the Park, tucked inside Lafreniere Park, which will only be closed on Christmas Day. The festivities, bringing a glow to Parc des Familles and Lafreniere Park, will reopen on December 26 and sparkle until December 30, as captured by Jefferson Parish's announcement. Patrons of these parks can purchase tickets or get more info from the Lafreniere Park website.
Even words will rest, as the Jefferson Parish libraries prepare to switch off lights early on December 23 at 5 p.m., remaining closed until December 26. In a slightly curtailed homage to the holiday spirit, Jefferson Parish Transit will roll on a Saturday schedule on Christmas Day before resuming its regular timetable the following day. For those relying on public transportation during this period, it's essential to stay updated with the schedules to avoid festivity-induced frustration.
