A juvenile was arrested yesterday by Portage County deputies after being accused of stealing a vehicle from Haasz Automall in Ravenna, as reported by WKYC. The suspect, an employee of the car dealership, led authorities on a chase through Streetsboro before being apprehended. Identified only as a juvenile, the individual's name was not released due to age.
Details from the Portage County Sheriff's Office indicate that the stolen vehicle, a black Dodge Durango, was returned to the dealership by the suspect, who subsequently fled when confronted by an employee. It was after this confrontation that the dealership then called 911. Officers discovered the vehicle on Route 14 in Streetsboro. Still, the suspect allegedly refused to stop quickly, running through red lights and driving through yards, leading the deputies to end the chase due to safety concerns, as stated by FOX8.
The abandoned vehicle was later found at a nearby apartment complex. What followed was K9 Hector of the Portage Aggressive Crime Enforcement (P.A.C.E.) The unit is deployed alongside Deputy Murray to track the suspect. The K9 successfully traced the juvenile across a 200-yard mix of grass and pavement, eventually leading to the suspect’s apartment, resulting in their surrender, according to Cleveland19.
Upon surrender, the suspect was taken into custody and now resides at the Portage County Juvenile Detention Center. Further details regarding potential charges or court dates were not immediately clear. This incident prompted a collective response from both the Portage County Sheriff's Office and the Streetsboro Police Department, highlighting once again the crucial role of inter-agency cooperation in maintaining law and order within our communities.
