The City of Sterling Heights recently announced a significant update to its leadership team with the appointment of Kate Baldwin as the new Human Resources Director, effective on Monday, December 9. According to an announcement on the Sterling Heights City website, Baldwin, who has been with the city since March 2017, will transition from her role as the Human Resources and Benefits Manager following a city council meeting on December 3.
Baldwin's tenure with the city is marked by a series of initiatives aimed at creating a more dynamic, and inclusive workplace. One of Baldwin's notable contributions was implementing the modified 9/75 and 9/80 work schedules which helped promote work-life balance. Her role in steering the city's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) journey has also been recognized, leading Sterling Heights to jump from an Equality Index Score of 8 points in 2019 to 99 points in 2023.
The city's new Human Resources Director holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management from Davenport University, among other credentials. Baldwin recently broadened her expertise by earning a Creative Business, Strategy, and Leadership Professional Certificate from Michigan State University. In her commitment to public service, she also holds a position on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Public Employer Labor Relations Association.
