The holiday season on Kaua‘i came alive with the spirit of aloha as the Kaua‘i Police Department and various first responders joined forces with the Līhu‘e Target store and the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center to bring joy to 69 local children and their families. On Wednesday, the "Heroes and Helpers" event served to not only provide gifts but also to foster a sense of community and trust between Kaua‘i’s youth and their local heroes, as reported by the County of Kaua'i.

Every child, handpicked by agencies such as Child Welfare Services, the YWCA of Kaua‘i, and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, was able to casually shop and enjoy a festive pizza party. Each was given a $100 gift card, a gesture meant to directly brighten their holiday season, allowing them to freely choose gifts alongside Kaua‘i's finest. According to the County of Kaua'i press release, the children enjoyed "a pepperoni and cheese pizza party courtesy of the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center."

The Kaua‘i Police Department expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to positively connect with the island's young residents. "We are so thankful and excited to participate in a positive experience with our island Keiki and hopeful that our children will develop fond memories and trust with our Kaua‘i police officers and other first responder partners," Deputy Chief Mark Ozaki told the County of Kaua'i government press release. He added, "Mahalo to Target, the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center, our first responders, and all our partners and agencies involved."

The spirit of the event was complemented by the dynamic presence of first responders from the Kaua‘i Fire Department, the Department of Land and Natural Resources, the United States Coast Guard, and the Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau. Each of these agencies and their representatives were eager to set aside their daily tasks to ensure they were fully participating in the joy and festivities of the day.
