A 38-year-old man from Kyle has found himself in the grasp of the law for the second time this year. Erich Spannhake was arrested on December 6 on charges that include possession of a significant quantity of psychedelic drugs, approximately 14 pounds in weight. In an arrest previous to this, in April, Spannhake was caught with Fentanyl and Xanax, which are controlled substances. Following that spring arrest, two additional substances were located and subsequently sent away for scientific analysis.

With Spannhake previously tangled within the legal system for possession of illegal drugs, police had further cause for exploration. The substances discovered during his April encounter with law enforcement were confirmed by the forensic laboratory to be testosterone and Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), the latter known for its psychedelic properties akin to those of LSD. This information, as reported by FOX 7 Austin, led to additional warrants issued for the illegal possession of DMT and the unprescribed testosterone.

The Kyle Police Department, under the stewardship of Police Chief Dr. Jeff Barnett, has reiterated their commitment to curb the flow of illegal substances through the community. In a statement from Dr. Barnett published by the City of Kyle's communications page, he lauds the officers involved, "I commend the officers in their thorough investigative work that led to this arrest. We will continue to work diligently to keep Kyle safe and hold these individuals accountable."

It appears Spannhake's legal troubles have compounded, as he now faces additional charges of evading and resisting arrest from his latest encounter with the police. These developments underscore law enforcement's intensified efforts to chase down and penalize those allegedly involved with controlled substances. While the officers put commendable effort to remove these dangerous drugs from our community, their relentless focus is on safeguarding the public and ensuring that justice, reflective of society's laws, stands firm.
