Early this morning a brush fire sparked concern in Griffith Park, but the swift response of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) halted its spread. According to an LAFD alert, the fire began around 3:11 AM at 6300 N Griffith Park Drive and covered approximately 1/4 acre of brush. Fighting a slow rate of spread in steep terrain, the firefighters faced the challenge of no wind to aid their efforts.

Despite the difficult conditions, described as "steep terrain," the LAFD managed to stop all forward progress on the fire by 3:36 AM using a combination of the wagon battery atop their engines and water drops from LAFD Air Operations, "Due to the very steep terrain, it will be an extended operation getting lines in place to cut around the burn area for the mop up of any remaining hot spots," reported in an update from the department. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported and there have been no damages to structures.

The incident, indicated with INC#0142, saw multiple firefighting teams respond to the call, including those stationed at FS 56 and Batt 5, among others. Crews from the West Bureau and Council District 4 were also among the responding units. They were supported by specialized air operations teams, marked by helicopters HA1, HA2, and HA3.

The LAFD has not reported any injuries or threats to structures in the nearby area. Residents did not experience evacuations or damage. No further details have been released at this time per additional statements from the LAFD.
