Former CFO and Controller Rebecca Buehler now sits behind bars, accused of pilfering over $300,000 from a local furniture manufacturing company, a sumptuous slice of the American Dream built up over twenty years by its owner. As KTLA reports, Buehler's alleged deceit came to light following a decision to shutter the business due to declining sales and losses in 2024.
The Laguna Beach Police Department, through an intensive investigation, unearthed Buehler's supposed affliction for high-end handbags and SUVs—paid by funds not her own. "These expenditures were made by diverting funds from the company’s business account to support her personal desires," KTLA quoted.
The depth of deception was laid bare after a forensic review confirmed fears into fact, implicating Buehler in the considerable breach of trust. With evidence in hand, she was tracked down to Redondo Beach, where officers made the arrest, and she was subsequently booked at the Orange County Jail. According to Laguna Beach PD's Instagram post, she is facing seven felony counts of Grand Theft, not a small issue considering one count pertains to an enhancement for theft exceeding $100,000.
